The planned merger between Nissan and Honda collapsed quickly due to fundamental differences in the expectations of both companies.
While Nissan was hoping for an equitable merger, Honda was seeking an acquisition, which led to the collapse of the negotiations.
In light of this situation, Japan is considering strategies to attract Tesla as an investor in Nissan, with a high-level group that includes former officials, such as former Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga.
Nissan wants Tesla to invest a lot of money in its company
This group, which also includes the participation of Hiro Mizuno, a former member of Tesla’s board, believes that Elon Musk’s company might be interested in acquiring Nissan’s factories in the United States.
This is set against a backdrop where Tesla seeks to improve its domestic manufacturing in the face of the tariff threats launched by Donald Trump.
As Nissan exhausts its options within Japan, it looks outward for strategic partners. The company has also received approaches from Foxconn, adding pressure to its future.
However, it is important to note that Tesla’s intentions on this matter are not entirely clear. The company has expressed its preference for building new factories rather than acquiring existing facilities, based on its past experience with the Fremont plant, acquired in 2010.
Rumors indicate that, although Tesla may be considering the proposals, the company likely does not need Nissan’s factories in its pursuit of expansion. In this delicate scenario, Nissan’s future remains uncertain, and the pressure to find a strategic partner intensifies.
