Netflix has been betting on Spanish-produced films and series for some time now, and the truth is that the move has not turned out badly at all. From the success of La Casa de Papel and Élite to little gems like Bajocero or Orígenes Secretos, the platform is full of small miracles of our cinema.

Now, they have just announced a new film that is very reminiscent of Buried, the film by Rodrigo Cortés with Ryan Reynolds that triumphed in 2010. But it is also reminiscent of a very recent drama that happened with some explorers of the Titanic… it sounds familiar, doesn’t it? Yes, we are talking about the Titan, the submarine that disappeared in an expedition to the famous sunken ship.

The film in question is called Nowhere and Netflix has just unveiled its teaser trailer along with some images from the production. Below, we leave it for you to make your own opinion:

A film about claustrophobia and survival

Nowhere is a film directed by Albert Pintó, director of Malasaña 32 and professor at the ESCAC film school in Barcelona. He has also participated in Sky Rojo and La Casa de Papel, so he is a Netflix regular. The film will star two big stars of the moment: Anna Castillo (La llamada, El olivo) and Tamar Novas (El desorden que dejas, O Corpo Aberto).

The film’s release date has been announced for September 29, and its synopsis couldn’t be more claustrophobic: ‘Nowhere’ tells the story of Anna Castillo’s character Mia, a pregnant woman who escapes her country devastated by overpopulation and lack of resources. In her flight, a storm throws the container she is traveling in into the sea. And from there begins her struggle for survival.

Nowhere’s protagonists are in the middle of the sea, with no resources and no way to save themselves… very reminiscent of the recent Titan drama. Still, it looks like the film will tell its own survival story, which, frankly, looks pretty good.
