Adapting great works of literature to the screen carries a huge risk. The phrase “the book was better” is the most common when it comes to this type of adaptation, so Netflix faced a huge challenge in producing the series One Hundred Years of Solitude, newly released on the platform.

Based on the literary masterpiece by Gabriel García Márquez, the series has just been released worldwide, but is it living up to expectations? The truth is that, despite how difficult it was, it seems that it is. On Rotten Tomatoes it has premiered with a 100% positive reviews, and while respecting the differences with the book, the vast majority of viewers are being captivated.

A delight for fans and new followers

Let’s see what the first five reviews of One Hundred Years of Solitude on Rotten Tomatoes say:

“Visually appealing and deeply committed to doing justice to the original material, One Hundred Years of Solitude achieves all its goals” – Mary Kassel, Screen Rant

“The series is truly dazzling to the eyes and ears, while the cast is excellent” – Verne Gay, Newsday

“The Spanish series not only breathes new life into Márquez’s supposedly unfilmable novel, but also manages to be a triumph of cinematography thanks to impressive cinematography and an epic story spanning several generations…” – Carly Lane, Collider

“What this adaptation does so well is take Márquez’s imagination literally and allow us to give it our own meaning” – Keith Watson, Daily Telegraph
