Imagine paying 28 dollars for something in a store and at the door, the owner is offering it for free. Neither their business strategy is very clear, nor will it sit particularly well with you. Well, pay attention to this story. Blizzard Entertainment is at the center of controversy once again, this time due to an error related to the legendary Lucio skin known as Cyber DJ. This skin was offered in the store at a price of approximately 28 dollars, generating some excitement among players (at least those with money). However, the situation took an unexpected turn when, less than 24 hours later, Blizzard announced that the skin would be available for free as part of a Twitch drop through a special Overwatch 2 event. There you go.
And the price is… Nothing!
The confusion arose due to an internal misunderstanding about the availability of the skin. The gaming community, understandably, was upset about the situation. “There was an unfortunate error in launching a bundle in the store that included the Cyber DJ skin while it was also being promoted as an exclusive Twitch drop“, explained the community team in a subreddit dedicated to the game. In response, Blizzard has begun refunding players who purchased the skin and has promised to offer a new exclusive skin for Baptiste in the upcoming Overwatch Spotlight event. Something is better than nothing.
This incident occurs at a time when Blizzard’s title is facing increasing competition, especially from games like Marvel Rivals, which has gained popularity in recent months. Some players have expressed criticism about the current state of Overwatch 2, although not all opinions are negative. Despite this discontent, other community members have raised their voices in favor of the title, suggesting that Overwatch 2 is still a solid game compared to its rivals.
Additionally, there are rumors about a possible return of 6v6 matches in the future, as Blizzard seems to be considering this change due to the ongoing interest from players. As the company strives to mend its relationship with fans, it remains to be seen how these developments will impact the future direction of Overwatch 2.
