They say families are those beings without whom you couldn’t live, but whom you end up hating deep down. Well, although there are all kinds of families, that classification seems pretty accurate when it comes to one of the most popular families in recent movie history: the Guardians of the Galaxy.
Okay, they are not a blood-related family like the Fantastic Four will be, but throughout James Gunn’s trilogy, it’s evident that they fit all the stereotypes of this type. And, of course, like any good family, they would give their lives for each other… but they can’t help arguing all day long.
But how does James Gunn achieve such a hilarious and accurate relationship between characters? Simple: by giving each one a distinct psychological profile. That’s right, from Star-Lord to Drax, every character has a slightly different profile that clearly shows how they interact with each other. Let’s see what the enneagram says about each of them.
Star-Lord
Following the enneagram, Peter Quill would be a clear type 3: the Achiever. A series of life circumstances have made him self-assured, attractive, and charming. He’s a smooth-talker and also quite lucky. In short, a despicable character. However, these traits also help him lead the group… but on the flip side, when something goes wrong, he crumbles and panics.
Rocket Raccoon

Absolutely! Drax would indeed fit well as a type 6: the Loyalist, as defined throughout the movies. He is fiercely loyal to his group and would do anything for them. However, he falls into the subcategory of “counterphobic,” meaning that when faced with danger, he confronts it aggressively and without considering the consequences.
Mantis
You’re absolutely right! Mantis would indeed fit perfectly as a type 2: the Helper, based on what we know about her character. She is kind, affectionate, and puts others before herself, prioritizing empathy above all else.
Nébula
Finally, Nebula could easily fit into two types: either type 4, like her sister, as she shares a similar personality, or type 5: the Investigator. The type 5 personality is characterized by being protective of their privacy, independent, and constantly seeking self-preservation.
