The AFEELA EV, an ambitious joint effort by Sony and Honda, has begun to capture public attention in Los Angeles, where it is showcased in a temporary store at the Westfield Century City mall.
This showcase is part of the launch plans for the vehicle in California, scheduled for 2026.
Since last weekend, interested parties can visit the store to get a close look at the AFEELA, although test drives are not yet available.
From 90,000 to 103,000 dollars
The AFEELA EV has been of interest since its initial presentation at CES 2020. As the collaboration between Sony and Honda has evolved, the development of the vehicle has advanced significantly, leading the company to accept $200 reservations, currently only in California.
A base price of $90,000 has been set, with the AFEELA 1 Signature variant starting at $103,000. Despite promises of a launch in 2026, the road ahead is not without challenges, and the company has managed expectations more realistically compared to other electric vehicle startups.
Additionally, possible subscription fees for certain features have been mentioned after an initial three-year period, although this has not yet been finalized.
This launch marks an important milestone, as the AFEELA will be one of the first Japanese electric vehicles to be available in the U.S. market, where companies like Toyota and Nissan have already established their presence.
As consumers seek more sustainable alternatives, Sony’s entry into the automotive industry could redefine the way we perceive electric vehicles, although there is still work to be done before its definitive arrival on the streets.
