Secret Invasion is the new major series from Marvel Studios for Disney Plus. After releasing a barrage of shows like Wandavision, Loki, Hawkeye, Ms. Marvel, and Moon Knight over the past two years, the platform has launched this new series starring Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury.

It was expected, considering the main character and the storyline it presents—the Skrull invasion, which will return in Avengers: Secret Wars—that the series would be another hit for Marvel that would bring everything back on track. However, the viewership numbers for the series have been very low… and it is the second least-watched show in the entire Disney Plus lineup.

A problematic failure

As reported by Samba TV, Secret Invasion managed to attract 994,000 U.S. households to tune in for the first episode of the series within the first five days. While this number may seem decent for any regular show, it is considered quite poor for a Marvel production.

Only one Marvel series had a worse premiere than Secret Invasion: Ms. Marvel. The show that introduced Kamala Khan only garnered an audience of 775,000 viewers, and both series fall far behind the highest-performing Marvel show: Loki, which reached 2.5 million viewers.

Here are the viewership numbers for Marvel Studios’ series on Disney Plus since the premiere of Wandavision:

  • Loki – 2.5 million
  • Moon Knight – 1.8 million
  • The Falcon & The Winter Soldier – 1.8 million
  • WandaVision – 1.6 million
  • Hawkeye – 1.5 million
  • She-Hulk – 1.5 million
  • What If? – 1 million
  • Secret Invasion – 994,000
  • Ms. Marvel – 775,000

It is clear that the latest Marvel series did not perform as expected. It remains to be seen if the upcoming shows can turn the situation around, but the studio is currently experiencing one of its worst years since its first release in 2008.
