Shohei Ohtani will be the first baseball player to appear in Fortnite

Shohei Ohtani has been universally recognized as the best baseball player in the world today, excelling both as a pitcher and a hitter. In an unexpected development at the intersection of sports and video games, Ohtani will become the first baseball player to join Fortnite’s Icon Series. This series has previously included numerous recognized sports personalities, from streamer Ninja to basketball player LeBron James, but until now, it had not incorporated any baseball players, despite the increasing buzz around this sport outside the United States.

Baseball-inspired skins and weapons

Starting March 17, Fortnite players will be able to obtain the LA Dodgers uniform of Ohtani, available in three styles: white for home games, gray for away games, and a Lego version. A pickaxe called Trusty Two-Way will also be included, designed like a baseball bat combined with pitching machine heads, a tribute to Ohtani’s exceptional ability to play as a two-way player in baseball, something rare in the sport.

In addition, fans will have the opportunity to customize their experience with a back bling in the shape of a Decoy bobblehead, Ohtani’s dog. For those looking for something more exclusive, a set called Samurai Shohei will be available, which includes a flaming arm when eliminating other players, a pickaxe called Baseball Batana, and a back bling called Samurai Screamer.

Players who wish to unlock the Samurai Shohei outfit can do so early by participating in the in-game event called the Shohei Ohtani Cup, which will launch on March 15. This collaboration with Fortnite highlights not only Ohtani’s impact on the sports world, but also his growing influence on youth culture, making his inclusion a significant step for the representation of baseball in contemporary entertainment platforms.
