A new Snapchat hack is circulating where compromised accounts are being used to send photos of smoothies with a link to a suspicious site. Wired reports that this hack involves an attacker gaining access to your account by knowing or guess your password correctly. This type of attack is not surprising as 4.6 million Snapchat user names and passwords were leaked recently.

“It’s mostly cases where someone has your email address and password and gets in on the first try. We’re not seeing any evidence of brute-force tactics,” says a spokesperson for Snapchat speaking to Wired. Those who have weak passwords without a mix of numbers, letters, and symbols should change their Shapchat passwords immediately. To prevent hacks like this from happening to you, always use randomly generated passwords for each site and service you sign up for. Never use real personal information for security questions in case your account is compromised. Password managers like KeePass or Lastpass make managing passwords simple.
Snapchat is investigating the hack and trying to track down the leak. In the meantime, Snapchat advises users not to download third-party Snapchat apps as they may steal your credentials.
