After the highly acclaimed Sonic Frontiers, the folks at SEGA had an incredible surprise in store for us: the release of Sonic Superstars. Behind this name lies a new game featuring the blue hedgehog, but instead of continuing with the open-world format, it returns to its traditional roots… with a twist that suits it really well.
With a fresh new graphical look that departs from pixel art and embraces 3D side-scrolling platforms, this Sonic adventure takes us through the Northern Star Islands, a place that offers “never-before-seen” environments. In addition, we’ll face enormous creatures, embark on thrilling adventures, and, of course, thwart Eggman’s plans, all accompanied by new music, zones, gameplay, and even UHD visual effects.
Throughout the adventure, we’ll harness the power of the seven Chaos Emeralds to acquire new abilities and ways to defeat enemies. The best part is that we won’t only control Sonic, but also Tails, Knuckles, and Amy Rose. Sonic’s designer, Naoto Ohshima, returns with a new character for Sonic and his friends to confront. There will also be local cooperative multiplayer for up to 4 players throughout the entire campaign.
The game is set to release during the fourth quarter of 2023 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X | S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
The Japanese company has confirmed that we can expect more news about Sonic through official channels. There’s a lot of anticipation to learn more details about this exciting new adventure, especially considering its impressive presentation so far.
