Sony raises the price of PlayStation 5 in Europe
They have no reason to do it, although they hide behind the global economic situation

The Trump administration has announced new tariffs that have led to a significant drop in the market capitalization of technology companies. This weekend, Trump seems to have reconsidered the situation and is considering exceptions for companies like Apple, NVIDIA, AMD, and Intel, which are the most impacted by these changes. However, trade tensions are not limited to just the United States and China, but have also transcended to Europe, affecting companies like Sony.
A completely unjustified price increase
In response to the global economic situation, which includes the impact of tariffs, Sony has decided to increase the price of the PlayStation 5 by 50 euros, bringing the new price to 499 euros. This adjustment comes despite the fact that the console has been available in some places for under 400 euros, reaching prices as low as 379 euros. On the other hand, the standard model with a disc drive and the PS5 Pro remain at their previous prices of 499 euros and 799 euros respectively, indicating that Sony can absorb the increase in component costs for those models.
Additionally, Sony has announced a price reduction on the PS5 disc reader, lowering it from 120 euros to 79.99 euros. This move seems to focus on the need to clear out accumulated stock, as sales of physical discs have stagnated, largely due to the growing preference of consumers for the digital format. Although price changes may seem contradictory, they reflect a strategy to adapt to a transforming economy.
Despite the announcement of a price increase, it is possible to find the PS5 for 449 euros on some platforms like Amazon, allowing buyers to take advantage of the old price before the new adjustments are made. However, it can be assumed that this price will change soon, so those interested in acquiring the console should act quickly.
