Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is the third return to the Ghostbusters universe after its two original movies. The cast that worked so well in Ghostbusters: Beyond in 2021 returns with a sequel full of nostalgia and the return of Bill Murray in the most iconic role of his career.

But did Sony Pictures achieve a good box office with Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire? We know that the first movie did work, but this one has been quite vilified by critics… and considering that Sony is coming from a disaster like Madame Web, it is clear that they urgently need the movie to succeed in theaters.

Is a third part confirmed?

Undoubtedly, Sony can breathe easy with the numbers of Ghostbusters: Ice Empire. Despite the bad reviews, the movie has earned over $45.2 million in its opening weekend in the United States, as well as $16.4 million in international markets. Thus, in its first weekend, it totals $61 million, narrowly surpassing the previous film.

These numbers make it clear that the movie has done well, as its cost has been only 100 million, a figure that will soon be surpassed. Taking this into account, it seems more than clear that we will see a third installment of this new version of Ghostbusters, making it clear that the 80s icon is back in fashion.

However, next week a similar film will be released that could end the success of Ghostbusters at the box office: Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. This film aims to be one of the biggest blockbusters of the year, so it is not clear if the ghosts will be able to withstand the attacks of the monsters.
