That it wasn’t dead, no, no. No matter what the media said just yesterday: the development of the MMORPG based on the Horizon franchise has not been canceled, according to the latest updates from NCSoft. Although previous reports indicated otherwise, it is important to clarify that the confusion arose from an erroneous report mentioning a game known as ‘H’, which is not related to the Horizon IP.

The journalist Seo Jeong-geun, responsible for the initial information, later confirmed that the MMORPG project using the Horizon IP is still underway. This is a relief for fans, as it means that the game has not been forgotten amid all the cancellations that have affected other titles in the video game world.
Despite the recent cancellations at NCSoft, where developers have been relocated to alternative projects instead of proceeding with layoffs, the overall situation is not as negative as it might seem. This approach allows talent to continue working within the company and keeps hope alive that the MMORPG based on Horizon will materialize later on.
In relation to Sony, the company has decided to cancel two online service games, a new God of War title developed by Bluepoint Games and another unrevealed game by Bend Studios. This decision is part of a broader trend of reducing Sony’s efforts towards games as a service, especially after the recent closure of Concord. Additionally, Sony has implemented a regional lock on the Steam version of Horizon Forbidden West, a measure that has been seen as a negative aspect in consultation with its players.
As the game service market evolves, developers seem to be adapting, and fans of the Horizon series can feel relieved that the future of the MMORPG is still in play.
