A famous Apple TV commercial once showcased a woman finding help through the emergency service feature on her Apple Watch. It made quite an impact, serving as a statement of what can be achieved. Now, something similar has happened with a Nintendo Switch, a young girl, and a fascinating story.

The 15-year-old girl, whose name has not been disclosed for privacy reasons, was abducted by a 29-year-old man named Ethan Roberts. Fortunately, the young girl had her Nintendo Switch with her, with the acquiescence of the perpetrator. When she connected it to the internet to watch YouTube or download a game, her online status became visible to all the friends she had added.

Here comes the pivotal point of this story. One of her friends knew that she had been missing for 11 days, so when they saw her online, they thought, “Hey! My friend is online, and she’s missing. I need to tell someone.” When this friend informed the relevant authorities, it didn’t take long to trace the location from where all the content was being downloaded or videos were being watched.

Shortly after tracking the location, law enforcement sprang into action, contacted the family, and initiated the rescue operation. The girl was found over 3,200 kilometers away in Arizona, where the FBI surrounded the building to enter and rescue the teenager. After two weeks of being abducted, she was reunited with her family.

It is worth noting that Roberts has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for possession of child pornography and the abduction of a minor. The story was concluded in April of 2023 but has only come to light today thanks to ABC15.
