The last year has been splendid in terms of cinematographic quality, and the best proof of this is the Oscar awards that have just taken place. But beyond all this, several unusual records were broken in the history of these awards. That is to say, practically all the movies had their protagonism for one reason or another, and both for good and for bad, it is clear that they made history.

All the broken records at the 2024 Oscars

Below is the list of records that have been broken at this year’s Oscars:

  • Cillian Murphy became the first Irish actor to win the Oscar for Best Actor.
  • Christopher Nolan and his wife Emma Thomas (director and producer, respectively) became the second married couple to win the Oscar for Best Picture, after Richard D. Zanuck and Lil Fini Zanuck achieved it in 1989 for Driving Miss Daisy.
  • Mark Ruffalo became the actor with the most nominations for Best Supporting Actor thanks to Pobres criaturas. He was previously nominated for The Kids Are All Right, Foxcatcher, and Spotlight.
  • Diane Warren became the woman with the most nominations in the category of Best Original Song. She has a total of 15, the latest being The Fire Inside from Flamin’ hot.
  • Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connel managed to win their second Oscar for Best Original Song just two years after the first one.
  • Justine Triet became the first French woman to win an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay for Anatomy of a Fall.
  • The Boy and the Heron became the second non-English film to win the Best Animated Feature Film award. The first time this happened was with Spirited Away in 2003, also by Hayao Miyazaki.
  • Jonathan Glazer made Zona de interés the first film to win the Oscar for Best International Film, thanks to the use of German in the film.
