After two weekends of long server queues and a brief sampling of the game’s initial zones and its five classes, the Diablo IV beta is officially over. And that means players now know what they’ll be facing on June 6, 2023.

Overall, it looks like the Diablo IV beta went great. Fans have been raving about the game throughout March and the general feeling is that they can’t wait until June for the full game to come out.

The bug is silly… but there’s still time to fix it.

But, if we get transcendental and fundamentalist, there is a glaring omission that has made gamers very angry: you can’t pet the dogs. In Sanctuary, dogs roam free and there is no option to give them a good cuddle or scratch their ears. So what are they there for?

Petting the dog (or the cat, or the cute fantasy animal of dubious canine or feline ancestry) has become so endemic to video games that it is taken for granted.

The obsession with being able to pet pets is so great that there is a very popular Twitter account called Can You Pet The Dog. This account goes through all the video games to let fans know if the new release has the option to pet dogs/cats.

And this obsession is shared throughout the western world, where cats and dogs are members of our family in their own right. So we can’t understand how Blizzard didn’t realize that if they put a bunch of cute dogs scattered around Sanctuary people would want to pet them.

We don’t know if this is a bug or something Blizzard plans to add to the game when it launches. Although, if we go by what we’ve seen so far, chances are we’ll be petting pets elsewhere… and that shouldn’t be a problem.

Diablo IV is getting a lot of likes and it seems that, finally, there is a Diablo at the height of the franchise after almost a decade of waiting and promises. When Blizzard announced Diablo Immortal for smartphones, fans feared for the future of the saga. Diablo IV is proof that it is safe for the time being.

Diablo IV is released for PC, PlayStation and Xbox on June 6.
