Warner Bros Discovery has just released some big news: as of May 23, the HBO Max platform will change its name simply to Max in the United States, a change that will come to Spain next year. The announcement comes with the intention of making a new, more complete catalog on the platform, adding all the new Discovery Plus releases.

Among all the news announced along with this major release is the production of a new Harry Potter series, the development of a Game of Thrones prequel and a spin-off of The Big Bang Theory, the anime adaptation of Rick and Morty, and also the launch of an animated series that has been in development for some time: Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai.

Starring Gizmo, the little Gremlin who stars in the 1984 film, the series promises to tell the origins and secrets of these creatures. Max has released a trailer that makes it very clear what we will find in the series:

What will Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai be about?

As you can see in the trailer, the series will serve as a prequel to the 1984 film Gremlins. It will take us to Shanghai during the 1920s to tell the story of Sam Wing, a young man who will soon meet Gizmo, the little creature that hides big secrets.

The series features animation that mixes the current styles of films such as Spider-Man: A New Universe or Arcane with traditional techniques. It will also serve to create a portrait of the China of the time and its folklore.

When is Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai released?

The series will arrive on May 23 at Max, along with its premiere in the United States. In Spain, it will be available through the HBO Max catalog, which has not yet changed its name internationally. Behind the fiction is Tze Chun and the protagonists are Izaac Wang, Ming-Na Wen, B.D. Wong, James Hong, Matthew Rhys and Sandra Oh.
