The PlayStation 4, one of Sony’s most iconic consoles, is closing a significant chapter in its history.
The company has announced that it has stopped sending PS4 consoles to Japan, marking the end of a generation that has provided players with 12 years of memorable games and entertainment.
However, despite this decision, many fans believe that the console still has life ahead, thanks to games like Fortnite and other free-to-play titles that maintain an active player base.
Developers keep hope alive for the PS4 as production slows down
Fortnite has proven to be essential for the longevity of the PS4, as many players use it exclusively to enjoy this popular online game.
With a huge user base, it is unlikely that free-to-play game developers, like Epic Games, will abandon the console as long as they continue to see profitability and considerable interest. “The signal that the PS4 is dying is the day Fortnite stops supporting it,” expressed a user on Reddit, reflecting the sentiment of many players who still see a future for the platform.
Although official support from Sony for the PS4 is expected to end in the near future, developers still have the ability to create and update games for the console. This indicates that PS4 owners should not get rid of their devices just yet. The console will remain functional until Sony decides to shut down online gaming servers, which, in the short term, does not seem likely.
Therefore, although the closure of console production represents a clear sign of change, the PS4 can continue to offer entertainment for years to come, as long as updates and developer interest remain constant.
The gaming community will be attentive to Sony’s moves and the future decisions of developers in the PS4 ecosystem.
