Clint Eastwood’s latest film, Juror No. 2, will be available on Max on December 20, following a limited theatrical release that generated some controversy among the director’s fans. We now know that, although it was initially conceived for streaming, the film had a brief run in a few U.S. theaters to meet the eligibility requirements for the Oscars, a decision that, far from being a snub, had Eastwood’s own consent. However, in other markets like Spain, the film had a wider release, achieving notable box office figures in its first weekend.

Jurado Nº 2 is a legal thriller that follows Justin Kemp (Nicholas Hoult), a juror who faces an ethical dilemma when he discovers that he might be the real perpetrator of a crime he is judging. The film creates a murky yet reflective atmosphere, inviting the audience to ponder what they would do in such a situation.
A legal thriller like the old ones
With a high-level cast that includes Toni Collette, J.K. Simmons and Zoey Deutch, the film has been praised for its tense narrative and complex moral dilemmas. Additionally, Eastwood’s direction, reminiscent of genre classics, and the atmosphere created by cinematographer Yves Bélanger, make Jurado Nº2 shine on its own.
The critics, in fact, have widely supported the film, giving it a 91% on Rotten Tomatoes, highlighting Eastwood’s return to a style where he thrives. However, the box office success has not been enough to change Warner’s strategy, which bets on streaming as the place where the film will find its widest audience.

In any case, it is undoubtedly a very enjoyable film both on the big screen and the small one, so its arrival on streaming could be a perfect opportunity for Eastwood fans and his cinema to come across one of the latest gems from the 94-year-old filmmaker.
