The highly anticipated action role-playing game by Netmarble, Solo Leveling: ARISE will be released on Wednesday, May 8th worldwide, with over 12 million pre-registered users eagerly awaiting to try the game. The game can now be downloaded on Android and iPhone, with a total size of 40 GB.

This figure breaks the record for pre-registrations for any Netmarble game, as it is based on a web novel by Chu Gong that enjoys great popularity and has a large fandom worldwide.

The novel has been adapted into a webtoon and an animated series, and both have been very successful. The webtoon accumulated over 14.3 billion views worldwide, while the animated series ranked among the most watched on Netflix.

The game developers are very confident that this will become their next “cash cow”.

Solo Leveling revolves around the protagonist, Sung Jin-woo, and his journey to become a high-level hunter, a human with magical abilities who can fight monsters. As the story mainly revolves around the protagonist, it is a single-player action game.

The company seems determined to maintain the single-player gameplay, as the game’s specifications “are not intended for real-time multiplayer content,” according to Jin Seong-keon, producer at Netmarble Neo.

Since the game is based on a beloved IP, the company has put a lot of effort into crafting the game’s narrative. A total of 18 stages are currently awaiting users. The schedule for the first update has not been revealed yet.

The game follows Jin-woo’s evolution from the lowest E rank to becoming a necromancer and ultimately a shadow monarch. As the story progresses, he acquires various abilities and powerful weapons that amplify his strength. Jin highlighted the transition to shadow monarch as one of the most enjoyable phases that he hopes players will experience.

Suits do not affect the character’s gameplay abilities. Game items and weapons to enhance the character’s abilities in the hunter phase can be acquired through gameplay, events, and the so-called loot box system, a draw that players can purchase and that may or may not favor their gameplay situation.

The objective of Netmarble is to develop the RPG for mobile and PC for Steam during 2024 and expand it to a console version in 2025.
