After eight weeks of pure intensity, season 3 of The Mandalorian has come to an end. When it began, many of us wondered what would happen with the future of Din Djarin and Grogu, what would happen with Mandalore, how would the Moff Gideon return… and all these questions have reached their conclusion after 3×08, the final episode of the season that has been a step forward in all aspects.

Looking back, we can give some reason to the critics and conclude that we are facing the season with the most ups and downs of all the seasons of the Disney Plus series. There have been some episodes that have been less memorable than others, and the conclusion has also been somewhat rushed.

If we take into account everything that has happened in this season, it is clear that things have gone a bit fast. Before it began, it was not even known if Mandalore was a habitable place, and everything ended with the reconquest of the Mandalorian home planet.

Still, the final episode has served to calm the fans and give the audience a new story. While Rick Famuyiwa’s episode was not really impressive, it did feature several memorable moments that will go down in the history of the series. And, in terms of meaning, its final part is everything that fans of The Mandalorian were in for since the first chapter.

“Mandalorians are stronger together”

The Mandalorian 3×08 kicks off with the cliffhanger from the previous episode. Din Djarin is kidnapped by Moff Gideon and taken away by two Imperial stormtroopers. However, Mando isn’t about to let two mere Imperial stormtroopers get the better of him, so he soon revolts and stands up to them.

The character played by Pedro Pascal has it rough in their confrontation, but at that moment Grogu appears, perched atop his IG-12, and manages to help Mando finish them off. With the job done and with no room for a possible early death of Din Djarin, the two protagonists of the Disney Plus series begin to make their way through the base.

Thanks to R5, the droid that Mando must rely on, a very particular action scene takes place in which the Mandalorian faces a corridor full of soldiers. Each part of the corridor has a shield that is deactivated by R5, so the stormtroopers can only watch as death is about to come to them.

But there is still another threat to defeat: the Elite Praetorian Guard protecting the Moff Gideon. Thus, after making their way by taking out Gideon’s clones along the way, Grogu and Mando face each other’s enemies: Din Djarin confronts Moff Gideon while Grogu has no choice but to fight against the Praetorian Guard.

In the meantime, a Bo-Katan Kryze, who has come to fight with the Mandalore army against the Imperials, defeating them in fierce battles in which the good work of Famuyiwa stands out. And, while the Mandalorian ship falls to finish with the imperial base, Bo-Katan gives the relief to Mando against the Moff Gideon so that he can save Grogu.

Thus, the final battle is defined in two parts: Bo-Katan against the Moff Gideon and Grogu and Din Djarin against the Praetorian Guard. While the protagonists take care of the red soldiers, we see how the imperial ends with the dark saber, in a moment more metaphorical than practical. And finally the ship falls against the base… devastating everything in it: including the three main characters of the series.

But, as expected, at that moment Grogu does his thing. While the flames engulf Moff Gideon, supposedly killing him, Grogu uses the Force to free Bo-Katan and Din Djarin from the fire, making a kind of air shield. An epic moment that hints at the importance the little guy has in the series.

A promising future

The chapter, therefore, gets where it needs to go, without major twists but with some very epic moments. Finally, the Moff Gideon falls and the Mandalorians regain their home planet, where they can settle down once and for all. But Filoni and Favreau still have some surprises in store for us.

Once settled, the Armera sets about christening the new Sons of the Guard, and Din Djarin asks Grogu to be his apprentice as a Mandalorian warrior. However, the Armera tells him the obvious: he is too young to pronounce the Creed and has no father who can do it for him.

At that moment, Mando does what many of us have been waiting for a long time: officially adopt Grogu. Thus, both must leave the planet they have worked so hard to get, as Din Djarin has to take him on a journey throughout the Galaxy so that he learns to be a warrior and be useful, therefore, for the new Mandalore.

The season concludes by closing some missing plots, but we finally see a lovely image that hints at what we will see in season 4: Mando, in his new cabin outside Nevarro, watches Grogu practice his strength on an alien frog.

As much as we’ve been through an epic, choral season, we’re back to what we’ve always valued about the Star Wars series: an adventure story between a quiet warrior and the cutest baby in the entire galaxy. Yes, season 3 may have been more transitional than anything else, but it has made it clear to us that the future to come is encouraging.
