After working for Atresplayer and Netflix, this time the directors are preparing this series for Movistar+, a platform that has given them enough freedom to produce their new story. What is Messiah about?
When Messiah was first announced, all we knew was that the story was based on the Flos Mariae, a religious pop group in which several sisters sang songs to God that went viral during the 2000s. However, it seems that this was only the starting point of a series that goes much further.
The official synopsis explains that everything starts with a viral video of a Christian pop music group composed of five sisters. This group has a major impact on the life of Enric, a man tormented by a childhood marked by religious fanaticism and the yoke of a mother with messianic delusions. In search of going beyond, Enric will want to get the sisters out of this personal hell in which they live.
Who is in The Messiah?
The cast of La Mesías is choral and is headed by Roger Casamajor, Macarena García, Lola Dueñas, Carmen Machi, Ana Rujas, Albert Pla, Amaia, Biel Rossell and Cecilia Roth. Among the young debutants in the series are Irene Balmes, Bruno Núñez, Carla Moral, Iona Roig, Lluc Jornet, Sara Martínez, Arlet Zafra, Joana Buch and Ninoska Linares. And other well-known actors appearing are Nora Navas, Gracia Olayo, Aixa Villagrán, Carla Díaz, Betsy Túrnez, Ángeles Ortega, Mari Paz Sayago and Rossy de Palma.
The series is so big that 170 named characters appear during its episodes and up to 3,800 people are featured. Not to be outdone, the story spans from the 1980s to 2013.
When does Messiah premiere?
