Between 2006 and 2013, a killer occupied televisions around the world with a series so successful that it even stood up to Hannibal himself. Dexter, an original Showtime fiction that ran for eight seasons, introduced us to the intricate mind of forensic expert and serial killer Dexter Morgan over a whopping 96 episodes. But his story doesn’t end here.

Showtime and Paramount+ have just released the trailer for Dexter: Original Sin, the highly anticipated prequel that explores the beginnings of the serial killer. In the preview, we are taken to Miami in 1991, where we discover how a young Dexter (Patrick Gibson) went from being a student to a relentless avenger with a strict moral code.

The origins of the most beloved killer

The series, set 15 years before the events of the first season of Dexter, shows how Harry Morgan (Christian Slater), Dexter’s adoptive father, guides the young man in controlling his homicidal impulses, designing a code that allows him to channel his darkness to eliminate those who “deserve it.” As Dexter begins a forensic internship at the Miami Metro Police Department, his transformation into the meticulous killer we know takes shape.

Michael C. Hall, who portrayed the adult Dexter, returns as the inner voice of the protagonist, emotionally connecting this prequel with the original series and the recent miniseries Dexter: New Blood. Original Sin will consist of 10 episodes and will premiere in the United States on December 13 on Paramount+. In the rest of the world, it will be SkyShowtime that broadcasts the series, although there is no confirmed date yet.
