Apple has taken us all by surprise with the launch of the latest generation of the iPad mini, now featuring the new A17 Pro chip and Apple Intelligence inside. A new iPad mini that continues to maintain its iconic ultraportable design and with the power of the new chip is now more versatile and powerful than ever.
The power of the A17 Pro: better in every way, excelling in graphics
The heart of this new iPad mini is the A17 Pro chip, which offers us a very significant increase in performance and energy efficiency compared to the previous model that featured the A15 Bionic. This new chip has a six-core CPU (two performance cores and four efficiency cores), resulting in a 30% increase in processing capacity.
Additionally, the iPad mini now includes a five-core GPU, which offers 25% more graphic power, to enjoy smoother and more realistic experiences, especially in high-demand graphic applications and games. In this field, we find the new hardware-accelerated ray tracing, which multiplies its speed by four and completely changes what professional applications are capable of doing.
Apple Intelligence: much more beyond traditional AI
The new iPad mini comes with support for Apple Intelligence, marking a before and after for our productivity and creativity. Apple Intelligence combines the power of the A17 Pro chip with generative language and image models, allowing us, for example, to rewrite, summarize, and correct texts in almost any application, such as Notes, Mail, or Pages. Siri is more intuitive thanks to Apple Intelligence and better understands natural language and is capable of maintaining the context of conversations.
Apple Intelligence goes beyond text, the memory feature of the Photos app now allows us to create personalized videos simply by writing a description. Additionally, the new Clean Up tool lets us remove objects in photos without altering the main subject. This is, of course, just the beginning. Apple Intelligence goes much further and this iPad mini is ready for all the new features.
Support for Apple Pencil and better connectivity
The new iPad mini is compatible with the Apple Pencil Pro, which transforms the device into a sketchbook or a portable design tool. The Apple pencil features functions such as pressure detection and gestures, making it easy to switch tools or adjust line thickness without interrupting the creative process.
Additionally, the Apple Pencil Pro features haptic feedback that provides a tangible response to certain actions, such as pressing or rotating the pencil, aligning elements on the screen, and much more. The Apple Pencil Pro magnetically connects to the iPad mini for charging and, of course, includes the Find My functionality, making it easier to locate in case of loss.
In the connectivity section, the new iPad mini now supports Wi-Fi 6E, which offers up to double the speed of the previous generation, and is also available in a version with 5G cellular connectivity, allowing us to have internet connection wherever we are. The USB-C port has been improved to offer transfer speeds of up to 10Gbps, which is especially useful for importing large photo or video files.
Better camera, price, and availability
Regarding the cameras, the iPad mini is equipped with a 12MP rear camera that offers more detailed photos thanks to the Smart HDR 4 feature. It also includes a 12MP ultra-wide front camera that, along with the Center Stage feature, ensures we are always centered during video calls and conferences.
As always, Apple has designed the new iPad mini with the environment in mind. The device uses 100% recycled aluminum in its enclosure, as well as recycled rare earth elements in all magnets.
The new iPad mini is available for pre-order from today and will be in stores starting October 23rd, with a starting price of 599 euros or 499 dollars for the 128GB Wi-Fi version, and 769 euros or 649 dollars for the model with Wi-Fi and cellular connection.
