A few days ago, Los Farad, the latest great Spanish blockbuster that aims to outperform competing thrillers —such as Netflix or HBO Max— premiered on Amazon Prime Video. With arms trafficking as its main theme, the series aims to be one of the most serious and action-packed in the current Spanish scene.
Los Farad transports us to the Marbella and Malaga of the eighties. Located in the 80s Puerto Banús, the story follows Oskar, a boy who dreams of opening a gym and ends up immersing himself in the fascinating world of the Costa del Sol, with its jet set, eccentricities, and geopolitics. Oskar achieves all this thanks to the Farad family, who offer him a future with the most unexpected of professions: arms trafficking.
A top-level Spanish thriller
The main protagonist of the series is none other than Miguel Herrán, well known for playing Rio in Money Heist. Alongside him is the spectacular Susana Abaitua, known for films like Crazy About Her and It’s You. Both manage to live up to the rest of the eccentric characters in the current Marbella.
Pedro Casablanc, Adam Jezierski, Nora Navas, Fernando Tejero, Amparo Piñero, and Omar Ayuso are other well-known and important faces in the cast. Without a doubt, they all shine thanks to the direction of Mariano Barroso and Alejandro Hernández, the creators of the series. Alongside them, Polo Menárguez, an industry expert, also directs.
But beyond having an extraordinary team, the series stands out as one of the most interesting of the moment. It features non-stereotypical characters that constantly surprise us; plot twists worthy of the best series and tension sequences worthy of Die Hard. A series, therefore, to be taken into account by everyone.
