It’s relatively normal for a game like ‘Spider-Man 2‘ to be released with bugs. Yes, really, as much as we don’t like it, we know that nowadays a couple of patches have to come out before we stop encountering people floating in the air, talking cats, cars that pass through us, and rooms in buildings that we can’t get out of, ‘Sims’-style. But there are things that go beyond the realm of bugs and enter the realm of neglect. And what neglect it is.

Fun with flags

Let’s travel back in time to August 2011, when Miles Morales made his first appearance in Marvel comics within the Ultimate Universe. At that time, it was a sensation: an Afro-Latino Spider-Man hailing from Puerto Rico, dealing with issues very different from those of Peter Parker. Although he initially faced criticism from some quarters, he was quickly embraced as the new Spidey.

Following the success of Morales’s two movies (“Into the Spider-Verse” and “Across the Spider-Verse“) and his own video game, it can be said without much doubt that he is the Spider-Man of a new generation. That’s why it’s hard to understand how Insomniac made such a fundamental mistake in ‘Spider-Man 2’.

It turns out that in Miles’s room, to support representation and as a nice gesture, the developers hung the flag of Puerto Rico. Or so they thought: they actually used the flag of Cuba. Oops. What’s even more curious is that in the character’s previous game, they did use the correct symbol, making it even more inexplicable.

In defense of Insomniac, it should be mentioned that as soon as James Stevenson learned about the mistake on Twitter, he quickly announced that a patch would be released to fix it. I’ll also tell you how things really are: I wish people on the internet were only complaining about the wrong flag.
