The notepad, the classic text editor by default in Windows 10 and Windows 11, will receive new features soon. According to Twitter user @PhantomOfEarth, Microsoft is working on a series of correction functions for the app.

Users who are registered in the Windows Insider program will soon be able to activate the spelling checker function so that the app highlights misspelled words and offers suggestions. In addition, the notepad will be able to autocorrect errors when the spelling checker is activated (yes, just like in Word).

Microsoft will integrate an exception list where users will be able to specify which types of files the notepad’s spell checker should ignore. The default list includes formats such as txt, md, srt, lrc, and lic. There is currently no information on whether Microsoft will allow adding other formats.

For now, all these features have been discovered through computer procedures beyond the understanding of this humble writer and are not publicly available, so we will have to wait for Microsoft to release the update for Windows Insider.

To top it off, the Redmon company has also redesigned the settings section of the notepad with animations and carefully crafted sections, now divided into the following categories: Appearance, Text Format, and Open the notepad.
