Dune: part two has become the best premiere of 2024 so far, and there are many reasons for it. Beyond its spectacular photography, its emotional story based on Frank Herbert’s novel, and its spectacular direction by Denis Villeneuve, the cast is one of the most spectacular seen in years in cinema.

From Timothée Chalamet to Zendaya, passing through Javier Bardem, Austin Butler and Florence Pugh, there are many actors who praise the series in a unique way. However, there is an actor who, despite having filmed several scenes for this movie, did not appear in the final cut. It is Tim Blake Nelson, whom you may know from the fabulous Watchmen on HBO Max or from The Ballad of Buster Scruggs. Although he had an important role in Dune: part two, he was ultimately cut from the final edit.

A discarded character from the movie

“I had a great time on set, but they had to cut my scene because, according to Villeneuve, it was too long,” explains the actor in an interview for Movie Web. Nelson has confessed that he doesn’t feel any resentment for the final decision, but that he is “heartbroken” by what happened, and that he was very excited to be part of the film. However, for now, no one knows which character it was.

Undoubtedly, the duration of Dune: part two is perhaps the weakest point of the film. Being 2 hours and 46 minutes long makes it one of the longest blockbusters in recent years, although this duration is becoming more standardized. However, we see that despite this, they have had problems with the footage, having to reduce it because it was going over time. It’s a problem that more and more films are falling into, and honestly, it could be avoided from the script.
