The Volkswagen ID.4 has made a remarkable comeback in the U.S. market, establishing itself as the third best-selling electric vehicle in January 2025.
With 4,979 units sold, these figures represent an impressive increase of 653% compared to the same month last year, when only 646 sales were recorded in the fourth quarter of 2024.
This rebound is a relief for Volkswagen, which had faced a 55% drop in sales the previous year due to a review that interrupted the production and delivery of the model. However, the German brand has managed to regain its position in the competitive electric SUV space.
5,000 units sold in January
In the broader landscape of electric vehicles, more than 102,200 units were sold in the United States in January, which translates to an increase of nearly 30% compared to January 2024.
The Tesla Model Y along with the Model 3 continue to lead sales, while the Honda Prologue and the Tesla Cybertruck complete the top five of the best-selling electric vehicles, which together accounted for 54% of total sales in the country.
The new ID.4 models for 2025 come with a starting price of $45,095 for the RWD Pro version, which offers an estimated range of up to 470 km (291 miles). Additionally, Volkswagen is offering significant discounts on the 2024 models to make room for the new versions.
The Honda Prologue has also shown robust sales performance, with 3,744 units sold in January and ranking as the seventh best-selling electric SUV last year, with over 33,000 units in total. With the electric vehicle market constantly growing, both brands seem well positioned to compete in this dynamic sector.
