Wargaming, the creators of World of Tanks, have announced the release date for their new mech game

Wargaming has announced its upcoming title, Steel Hunters, a promising mech shooter that combines elements of battle royale and extraction shooter mechanics. Scheduled for early access on April 2, 2025, the game was recently showcased at The Game Awards 2024, where it generated great excitement among video game fans.

From Tanks to Mechs

Unlike its previous works like World of Tanks, which has established itself as an icon in the war game genre since its release in 2010, Steel Hunters represents a significant shift in the creative direction of the studio. This new title falls within a more dynamic genre, offering free action with giant robots. In early access, Wargaming has ensured that there will be no initial monetization, allowing players to try the game without worrying about additional expenses at the start. However, micropayments will be introduced later in the development process.

At the time of the early access launch, Steel Hunters will feature three distinct maps and seven playable characters known as Hunters. Players will be able to choose from Razersida, Heartbreaker, Fenris, Ursus, Trenchwalker, Prophet, and Weaver, each with unique abilities that promise to enrich the gaming experience. Wargaming’s intention is to quickly move towards a full release, based on feedback and suggestions from players during the early access phase. “We don’t believe in long early access cycles,” the developers commented, emphasizing their commitment to a well-refined experience.

With this new proposal, Wargaming aims to capture the attention of a broad audience, affirming its strong reputation in the development of multiplayer titles while exploring new mechanics and gameplay styles within the universe of online shooters.
