We could have a Star Wars soundtrack by Hans Zimmer, but with a big condition

Hans Zimmer, recognized as one of the most influential composers in the film industry, has recently addressed the topic of his potential involvement in the Star Wars saga. In a conversation with Josh Horowitz on the podcast Happy, Sad, Confused, Zimmer made it clear that, in principle, he has no intentions of joining the franchise, indicating that his musical style diverges from the traditional approach that characterizes the Star Wars films.
A total commitment to Zimmer sound or nothing
The composer, whose work in recent films like Dune has been acclaimed but not as much as he would like, also commented on the legacy of John Williams, the renowned composer of the original Star Wars soundtrack. Although Zimmer has gained recognition in the film world, many believe he is still far from matching Williams, who left an indelible mark on film music. “The only way I see myself doing Star Wars is if I could reinvent it,” he mentioned, emphasizing his desire not to compromise the essence that has already been established within the saga.
Despite his willingness to explore a new musical approach, Zimmer is aware that this could mean moving away from a legacy cherished by many. “I can delve into that orchestral territory… but that’s not why you hire me, right?” he reflected on the responsibility that would come with taking on a project of such magnitude. This perspective invites fans to imagine what a Star Wars soundtrack would be like under the vision of a contemporary composer; however, it also suggests that, for the moment, fans of the franchise would have to adjust their expectations regarding a collaboration with Zimmer.
In summary, it seems that the iconic galactic saga will continue with its classic sound unless new circumstances arise that allow Zimmer, or any other composer, to reinvent what is already considered irreplaceable.
