The upcoming Windows 8.1 2014 update 1 has been leaked, and has appeared on various file download sites. This update is expected to be officially released to coincide with the Microsoft Build Conference in April.

Lots of information about the Windows 8.1 2014 update has already leaked out, as recipients of developer builds have no so quietly broken NDAs to publish screenshots and explanations of how the OS is developing. As we reported last week, the new build makes life easier for mouse users in Windows 8 style apps. The new title bar allows you to easily click to close, minimize or snap side-by-side and app with another app.

We have also seen a new sleep/shutdown/restart button on the tile interface – something that is strangely cumbersome in Windows 8.1. Also seen in leaked builds is a new shortcut to the control panel, which previously had to be accessed from the classic desktop.

It’s important to note that this is an early build, leaked unofficially, and there could be any number of changes before the final version is released in March.
