There are just two weeks left to enjoy Alan Wake 2, one of the most anticipated productions of this loaded October month. The second part of the famous writer arrives almost a decade and a half later, packed with novelties, including a very clear shift towards survival horror. Remedy has spoken about this change and has been unequivocal: without Resident Evil 2 Remake, this wouldn’t have been possible.

In an interview given to Gaming Bolt by its director Kyle Rowley, he pointed out that when they were exploring ideas for developing a possible sequel and whether it was feasible, the release of Capcom’s remake gave the entire team a boost. “The game had the ability to bring a classic from 20 years ago into the present day; its extraordinary reception gave us, entirely, more confidence to change the genre,” he emphasized.

Expanding on this, the director of the game noted that the market has changed over these years and now it’s easier due to increased interest. “Fortunately, when Control was released, single-player narrative experiences were products publishers could invest in again. Additionally, horror in general, both through games like Resident Evil 2 Remake and in popular culture with numerous movies of the genre, was growing in interest. Considering we obtained the rights to the original game, this meant everything fell into place to create the sequel. We are very happy,” he stated.

Thanks to these statements, we now know that Capcom’s adventure, which was one of the major successes of 2019, provided a boost for Alan Wake 2 not only to be created but also to change its genre.

On October 27, we will have the opportunity to find out on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X | S, and PC. However, it will be available only in digital format.
