There is less time left for Microsoft to celebrate the Xbox Games Showcase 2024. The next June 9th will be the day when we can see the new announcements and release dates for upcoming games. As expected, as the days go by, the rumors continue to increase. One of the rumors that resonates the most is the possible announcement of a new Doom.
A few days ago, Tom Warren, senior editor at The Verge, strongly hinted that Microsoft would be preparing to launch an announcement related to Doom. In his article published on May 8th, Warren wrote that “Microsoft will be banking on some new game announcements lifting the ‘DOOM‘ around Xbox”.
On the other hand, a new trademark by ZeniMax Media also pointed to the existence of a supposed new Doom. And the name of the trademark, IDKFA, is one of the most well-known cheats in the game.
In any case, it is not the first time we hear that a new game in the saga is being developed. Last year, Microsoft accidentally shared a release calendar where a project titled Doom: Year Zero appeared.

However, the real “catastrophe” has been suffered by Alpha Dog Games (Mighty Doom), Tango Gameworks (Hi-Fi Rush), and Arkane Austin (Dishonored and Redfall), the studios closed by Microsoft. According to Matt Booty, leader of Xbox Studios, these drastic measures aim to free up resources within the company and increase investment in other more prioritized areas.
At the beginning of the year, Microsoft suffered another massive wave of layoffs that affected around 1,900 employees. The cuts affected 8% of Microsoft’s video game division workforce, which is made up of approximately 22,000 employees.
