If you have Windows 10 as your operating system, it’s quite likely that its latest update is causing you problems. Don’t worry, it’s not just happening to you; it’s affecting quite a few computers, and Microsoft has acknowledged this issue. Furthermore, they have mentioned that they are working to resolve it.
To be specific, the error is related to the well-known Patch Tuesdays, those periodic updates released to keep our computers safe from emerging threats. With the latest update KB5031356 from October 10th, many users are receiving a notification stating that a file is missing, preventing the installation from proceeding. What can be done in this situation?
Microsoft has explained on its website that there are two ways to fix this problem. The easiest one is the automatic method, meaning you won’t have to do anything to resolve it. Simply put, the Redmond company will update the operating system in the coming days with a new Windows Update, and that’s it. Just make sure to keep an eye out for the update, and don’t worry about a thing, as the Known Issue Rollback (KIR) system takes care of undoing the errors and applying the changes.
The second way to fix it is manual. This method requires a series of steps, but it’s not too complicated. Here’s how:
- Open Command Prompt with Administrator privileges.
- Once here, run the following command: Dism /online /cleanup-image /RestoreHealth.
- Let the restoration process finish, restart just in case, and check for the update again using Windows Update.
After completing this procedure, Windows 10 should work smoothly again, without the mentioned error popping up. It’s crucial that you stay attentive to all updates and install the latest one that arrives.
