Your Smart TV turns off by itself? It might not be broken, just check these settings
If your Smart TV turns off on its own, the issue may lie in energy settings, inactivity timers, or HDMI-linked devices—not necessarily a malfunction.

Modern televisions are more like mini-computers packed with smart features, which means unexpected issues might have surprisingly simple solutions. One common problem users face is their Smart TV turning off by itself. While this might seem like a hardware failure, in many cases, it’s just a matter of adjusting a few energy or activity settings.
Check the energy saving mode
One of the most frequent causes is the activation of energy-saving features, especially the automatic power-off mode. On Sony TVs with Google TV, navigate to Settings > System > Power and energy > Energy saver to disable this option. Samsung users can find it under Settings > All settings > General & privacy > Power saving. LG owners should check All settings > General > Eco mode, where they can set the auto-off timer between 2 and 8 hours.
Update the software
An outdated system can lead to unexpected restarts that feel like shutdowns. Most Smart TVs support automatic or manual software updates. Make sure your TV is running the latest version of its operating system to avoid such glitches.
Beware of inactivity settings
Some models interpret long periods without remote interaction as inactivity, triggering automatic shutdowns. This is often preceded by a warning on-screen. Pressing any button on the remote cancels the action.
Consider HDMI-CEC and connected devices
If you have external devices like a console or media player connected via HDMI, their power state might influence the TV. This happens due to HDMI-CEC synchronization, which allows devices to control each other.
Don’t rule out physical issues
Before calling for service, check for loose power cables, faulty power strips or overheating, as these can also cause spontaneous shutdowns.
