YouTube is preparing a redesign for its TV app: Coming soon and here’s what we know

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the platform’s first upload, Google is unveiling a significant redesign for the YouTube app on TVs, bringing the big-screen experience much closer to what users already enjoy on desktop and mobile. Set to launch “this summer,” the update promises improved usability and a modern interface.

A more complete and accessible YouTube on TV

The upcoming update will introduce easier navigation, cleaner visuals, and more streamlined access to features like comments, channel information, and subscribing — tools that were once exclusive to the web version. YouTube on TV is set to become more than just a playback screen, evolving into a fully interactive experience.

Google has shared a teaser screenshot showing new buttons for playlist management and quicker subscription options, suggesting that the UI overhaul is aimed at convenience and familiarity with mobile interfaces. Although not all features have been revealed, the update appears to bring long-requested functionality to the forefront.

YouTube TV gets multiview improvements

Meanwhile, YouTube TV subscribers can expect an expansion of the multiview feature, previously used mainly for sports. Soon, a wider range of channels will support customizable four-way viewing, giving users more flexibility to engage with multiple streams simultaneously — whether they’re watching news, gaming, or entertainment content.

Though some enhancements will be reserved for Premium users (such as 4x playback speed on mobile), the TV app redesign is coming for all users, reflecting YouTube’s renewed focus on the living room as a key screen.
