One day, suddenly, a very catchy melody comes to your mind and you are interested in finding it to listen to it. But there’s a problem: you don’t know its name and you have no idea how to search for it. It’s a quite common situation, and for which YouTube, the popular video platform, created a useful feature, that allows you to search for songs by humming them.

Initially added as an experimental feature, voice search for songs eventually became available for all Android users in October of last year, allowing us to identify practically any song that comes to mind and exists in YouTube’s extensive library.

Now, this useful feature is also preparing to land on YouTube Music, the music streaming platform from YouTube that was born to compete with Spotify itself. A Reddit user shared a few days ago in a post a screenshot where you can see the corresponding button for this search feature, which will appear next to the classic voice search button.

According to Android Police, the music search function by humming is still not available for everyone, having tested different mobile phones with different operating systems. It is most likely that the function is in the testing phase and only a few users can access it. Either way, we will have to wait to see it finally in YouTube Music.

In the YouTube app, users can access the hum search feature by tapping on the search bar and then on the voice search button represented by a microphone. After this, you just have to tap on the “Song” button and hum the song for a few seconds for YouTube to show you a series of results. It’s not 100% effective, but it works very well most of the time.
