In a groundbreaking advancement for electric vehicle (EV) charging, ZEEKR has unveiled a new charger boasting a staggering 1.2 MW (1,200 kW) capability, positioning it ahead of BYD’s recently announced 1,000 kW charger.
This innovative charger will be officially launched in April 2025, marking a significant leap in charging technology, especially in the context of ultra-fast charging solutions.
ZEEKR’s vice president, Zhao Yuhui, highlighted the company’s rapid growth in charging innovation, noting that their speeds have progressed from 260 kW in 2021 to 800 kW in 2023.
Ultra-Fast Charging Frontier: ZEEKR’s 1.2 MW Charger Poised to Change the Game
The new 1.2 MW charger aims to revolutionize the EV landscape, not only surpassing BYD’s offerings by an additional 200 kW but also setting a precedent for future charging infrastructure.
BYD’s new ‘Super E-Platform,’ enabling 1 MW charging speeds, promises charging efficiencies akin to refueling at gas stations, capable of delivering 2 km of range per second and up to 400 km in just five minutes.
While some ultra-luxury EV models can support higher voltage platforms, the vast majority of EVs currently lag, achieving much lower charging rates. ZEEKR aims to change the narrative, but specifications regarding compatible vehicles for its new charger remain under wraps.
Both companies are pushing boundaries within the EV charging industry, with ZEEKR’s new charger set to debut at the upcoming Shanghai Auto Show in late April.
This event is highly anticipated not only for the launch details of ZEEKR’s fast charger but also for a potentially thrilling showcase of how these advanced charging technologies will revolutionize the driving experience. As the competition heats up, EV users may soon benefit from unprecedented charging speeds that ensure convenience alongside sustainability.
