This app is slow. Unbelievably slow actually. I have a fast wifi connection at home and still took a long time to load every page i tried to view.

I found that Spotted by Locals app is pretty good if it used in one of the 68 cities that it covers. I could look for actual spots that locals frequent without all the tourist traps and other nonsense. I recommend this for those who want serious recommendations on where to go when visiting a new location. More

My absolute favorite part of this app is that it can be used offline. The downside is that guides aren't available for many cities, but this is a "pay as you go" type of app so I only pay for the guides I'm using. These guides don't give my tourist trap areas, but unique experiences. More

You can also search events by trending to see what are the big popular events happening, so that way you can figure out what's "hip" in your city, or a city you'll be visiting soon. TripAdvisor is a great way to get reviews on places you want to travel. Beware that not all reviews are authentic, but for the most part I use this to research places I want to travel.
