Strategy (2389 programs)
Pros: Still provides intuitive control of a complex task. Certainly a visual upgrade, with improved textures and effects. Proves how good the original was, with only a few gameplay tweaks making this feel completely modern.
Cons: Really, the 3D combat is an illusion (shh, don't tell anyone). Looks good, but not as awe inspiring as the low-res version did back in 1999.
Pros: Tons of dragons to breed. Easy to learn and play.
Cons: Little innovation. Lacks character and soul.
Pros: Three interesting factions. Smooth and clear UI. Nice, strategic gameplay. Great visuals.
Cons: Very difficult for novice players. Possibly not enough unit variety for veterans.
Pros: Streamlined, fast-paced RTS controls. Great neon look.
Cons: Lack of depth may limit lasting appeal. Default colors are hard to distinguish.
Pros: Stunning design and world building. Accessible but deep strategy combat. Wonderful, if depressing, narrative.
Cons: Random deaths will annoy perfectionists. Personally, I would love more voice work.
Pros: Suspenseful gameplay. Chilling sound effects. Blood-curdling jump scares. Players can use a Freddy mascot.
Cons: Almost impossibly difficult. Light on action. Battery drains fast. No other game modes.
Pros: Oppressive and dripping with tense atmosphere. Intuitive point-and-click controls. Creates a real attachment to characters. Gets you really invested in the emergent narrative. Different.
Cons: Depressing. A lot of waiting for timers during the day.
Pros: Great mix of macro and micro tactics. Sliders to aim and move add real skill to combat. Great range of units. Fantastic experience for naval combat and WW2 enthusiasts.
Cons: Really one for genre fans. Not always the most visually impressive game. Takes some time to get the feel for it.
Pros: Nice real world armies with unique look. Some good strategic elements to larger battles. Campaign missions are great.
Cons: Just another time-management game. Up close it looks pretty basic. You are frequently met by time/payment walls.
Pros: Easy to pick up strategic systems. Depth is there as you get more involved.
Cons: Lacks originality. Grimey visuals.
Pros: Fun story mode. Great use of the Star Wars license. Beautiful graphics and sound.
Cons: Wonky A.I.. Doesn't bring much new to the genre.
Pros: Good gameplay mechanics. Destructible environments.
Cons: Few players in multiplayer. Poor controls.
Pros: Excellent robot construction. The competitive multiplayer. Countless possibilities. Discrete and optional micro-transactions.
Cons: The lack of a combat feeling.
Pros: Varied gameplay elements. Fun, cartoon presentation. Good use of the Ice Age license. Good Facebook integration.
Cons: Nothing we haven't seen before. Long waiting times if you don't pay for acorns.
Pros: Fun to play. Great cartoon presentation. Lots of levels. Great diversity of characters.
Cons: Not innovative or original. Not quite as slick as Plants vs. Zombies.
Pros: New US States added. New buildings added.
Cons: Not a big change from the original. Not very stable.
Pros: Easy to get into. Fun mix of challenges and puzzles. Cute animated graphics. Not as many in-game purchase prompts as the original.
Cons: Challenges are quite easy. Not a big change from the original.
Pros: Addictive gameplay. Interesting time period. Helpful instructions. Challenging objective system.
Cons: Micromanagement is a necessity. Too realistic.
