Nathan Gary, president of Annapurna Interactive, and his team would have been negotiating with Megan Ellison, the owner of the group, for her to relinquish control of the company. After her decision to withdraw from the conversations on two occasions, Gary and other executives resigned, a move that the rest of the employees later imitated.

In a statement from the group, Gary confirmed that “the 25 members of the Annapurna Interactive team collectively resigned” and that “it has been one of the hardest decisions we have had to make,” also assuring that “we have not taken this step lightly.”

The unexpected abandonment of all workers has caused chaos among the developers associated with Annapurna. They are uncertain about how this will exactly affect the projects they already have in hand. However, a company spokesperson has come out to calm the waters by confirming that all existing games and projects with Annapurna are moving forward.

In the midst of the whirlwind, Ellison himself has declared to Bloomberg that “our main priority is to continue supporting our developer and publisher partners during this transition” and that “we are committed not only to our current games, but also to expanding our presence in the interactive space, while seeking opportunities to adopt a more focused approach on linear and interactive storytelling through film and television, games, and theater.”
