Amazon retraces its steps with the God of War series. Following the success of Fallout, the company wants its next fiction based on a video game to be up to par. To achieve this, Amazon is willing to do whatever it takes, even if it means starting from scratch.
According to Deadline, director and executive producer Rafe Judkins has left the project along with executive producers Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus. This departure occurs after completing several scripts for the first season of the series.
Although Judkins’ work (The Wheel of Time) was praised by Sony and Amazon, it seems that both companies are looking for a different creative direction and a fresher vision. Now, the new plan would be to hire a new batch of writers for the series.
Co-produced by Sony Pictures TV and MGM Amazon Studios along with PlayStation Productions, the God of War series has been in development since at least March 2022 according to Deadline. The series would be an adaptation of the 2018 game and Amazon’s description couldn’t make it clearer:
“When his beloved wife dies, Kratos embarks on a dangerous journey with his estranged son to scatter her ashes from the highest peak. [The quest] will test the bonds between father and son, and will force Kratos to battle against new gods and monsters for the fate of the world.”
