Sam Altman announced in November (days before the OpenAI chaos) a new feature, GPTs, that allows us to create our own intelligent bots. Like most of the updates released by OpenAI, only those with a ChatGPT Plus subscription will have access to them. In return, we will be able to have a bot configured exactly as we want. How do I create my own GPT?
Although it may sound complicated, you don’t need advanced computer knowledge to create your own GPT. If you don’t have an OpenAI account, you will need to register and create one, as well as subscribe to ChatGPT Plus. Then, go to the GPT editor website, through this link.
In the top area, you will find two tabs, Create and Configure. Access Configure and start structuring your GPTs from scratch. This includes giving it a name and adding a brief description where you explain what your GPTs will do.
Next, enter in the Instructions box how the bot should act. Don’t be stingy with details: write what it will be used for, the functions it should perform, when it should perform them, etc. Further down you will also find another section, Conversation starters. These are phrases that the bot will use to be activated.
According to the purpose served by our GPT, it is likely that we will need to upload information for it to function correctly. For example: imagine that you want to create a bot that writes in old Spanish. In that case, you will need to train it with old Spanish data. From Knowledge, you will find a button to upload files to the platform. However, never upload anything that may contain passwords or sensitive information of any kind.
Below you will see another button, the one that says Create new action. Here you can upload APIs to make your bot more effective (as long as you know how to do it).
When you finish setting it up, go to the Guardar (or Save) button. Then, several options will appear that will allow you to make your GPT public, make it accessible with a link, or make it only usable by you. Choose one and confirm your choice.
That’s it! Now you can use your own version of ChatGPT. To use it, access ChatGPT and type any of the phrases you configured from Conversation starters. Your bot will activate instantly.
