Disney Plus did it. After over a decade without being able to watch Futurama, the streaming platform has reunited the original team to release a new season aiming to bring back one of the most beloved animated series in history. Driven by Matt Groening, the creator of The Simpsons, Futurama managed to rise as a show even superior to its predecessor, but the story was far from over.

Futurama’s 11th season has just premiered with a new episode, and each week, another one will be released, giving fans of the series a new routine. Interestingly, the first of these episodes perfectly captures the essence of a new Futurama, a season that draws inspiration from our present to create comedy about our future.

Futurama season 11 now available on Disney Plus

The first episode of Futurama’s 11th season is titled “The Impossible Marathon,” and its synopsis follows Fry going crazy with the vast TV series catalog, contemplating the idea of doing a marathon of all existing shows. Undoubtedly, it’s an easygoing approach to our present-day life, but the episode successfully captures the classic spirit of Futurama and brings the series closer to our everyday experiences.

The reviews for this season, however, have been mixed. While many celebrate the return of Fry, Leela, and Bender, there are others who believe that the expectations for this comeback were not fully met, perhaps because the series was a product of its time. Nevertheless, there are still plenty of reasons to catch up with Futurama, from its unique characters to its conception of a future that lies somewhere between dystopia and utopia.
