Matt Groening is one of the greatest audiovisual creators of all time, and The Simpsons is only his most acclaimed work. Beyond this series and Disenchantment, the underrated but genuine Netflix series, Groening also led one of the best animated series of all time: Futurama.

For 7 seasons that were stalled over time, the series made it clear that the future can be just as much fun as our present. And now it’s back on Disney Plus with a new season that will update our future and tell us how Fry and Leela have continued to fare.

The series will premiere its new episodes next July 27, and will once again delight both its fans and new audiences with its stories on Disney Plus. But is it worth watching the previous seasons to catch up? While it’s not something necessary because of its chapter structure, we think it’s the best thing to do, and we’ll leave you with the whys and wherefores below.

It is a series for which time has not passed.

The first of the reasons why you should catch up with Futurama or at least review its latest seasons is because it is still as relevant as ever. Although the first season is more than twenty years ago, the humor that Groening squeezed into this series is so particular that it is worth taking a look at it again.

The characters are one-of-a-kind

As with the Simpson family and their neighbors, the main characters of Futurama are unique and incomparable. The connection between Fry, Leela and Bender only grows more and more with other characters like Doctor Zoidberg or Amy Wong. Plus, it’s worth getting to know their stories well to catch up with the upcoming episodes.

The future of Futurama is very particular

We do not know what topics Futurama will play in its next season. However, the world of the series is so particular and has so many investigations that it is worth taking a look at how it settles before going fully into the new season.
