One of the best additions to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has been Cosmo, the space dog. This well-known Marvel character – much loved by Marvel Snap players – has risen as one of the most endearing and fun surprises in the movie, and although he is not as important as Adam Warlock, he has stolen the show on more than one occasion.

Now, perhaps to repeat the success that Cosmo has had, James Gunn has confirmed that his next film will also feature a space dog. Specifically, the film will be Superman: Legacy, the return of the Man of Steel after Henry Cavill‘s departure. And the dog in question will be Krypto, the Metropolis hero’s super-powered pet.

From Cosmo to Krypto

In an interview for the Toronto Sun, Gunn was standing next to Chris Pratt when he offered the role directly to Chris Pratt, star of Guardians of the Galaxy. The interviewer asked about whether he had considered the performer for his next film, and the director didn’t hesitate for a second:

I was hoping to add you as Krypto… the super-dog. But you’d have to be like Maria [Maria Bakalova, Cosmo actress in Guardians 3] and walk on your hands and knees.”

At that point, the two began debating between joke and reality, and Pratt dropped the bombshell: “So, it looks like the Kyrpto character will appear in Superman. It’s breaking news. And the interviewer, Mark Daniell, interjected without hesitation, “That’s a scoop for me.” To which Gunn replied, “I guess it is an exclusive, huh?”. Finally, Pratt joked about the alleged leak he had just made, “That’s the way you do it. You’re fired. Back to Marvel”.

We leave you with the full conversation below, which is not to be missed and provides even more details about Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and Superman: Legacy.

While it may sound like a joke, this isn’t the only time the DC Studios co-director has alluded to the possibility of adapting Krypto for his DC Universe. During a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Gunn was asked if his success with Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper) in the Guardians of the Galaxy films inspired him to bring Superman’s dog to live-action. His answer was clear: “I think so. I would be interested in a live-action Krypto, whether or not it had anything to do with Rocket”.
