K-pop lands in Overwatch 2 with its collaboration with Le Sserafim

The collaboration between Overwatch 2 and the K-Pop group Le Sserafim will return next week, promising players a renewed experience that will include a new song, five themed hero skins, and a new game mode. This will be the second time a joint event takes place, as the first one, which occurred in 2023, was a huge success among fans of the game and music.

You can enjoy it even if you don’t know a single song by the band

This time, new colors of the original skins from the previous event will be launched along with five new ones that will be available for the heroes Ash, Juno, Mercy, Illari, and D.Va. Since the beginning of the collaboration, the Le Sserafim team has actively participated in the selection of heroes, choosing characters that resonate with their preferences and experience in Overwatch.

In a context where character design is crucial for gameplay, Blizzard has taken a careful approach in creating these new skins. Dion Rogers, art director of Overwatch, mentioned that drastically changing a hero’s silhouette can complicate their recognition during the game, leading to a design that maintains key visual elements, such as Mercy’s wings and Reinhardt’s armor.

Surprisingly, the influence of pop culture is reflected in the design of the new skins, which incorporate elements of contemporary fashion and references to the visual aesthetic of Le Sserafim. For example, a charm on Mercy’s keychain, designed by one of the group members, adds a personal and unique touch to the collaboration.

With this initiative, Blizzard continues to push the boundaries of creativity in its skins, betting on designs that are not only attractive but also allow players to enjoy a fresh and relevant look, while maintaining the essence of Overwatch heroes.
