Warhorse Studios, the developers behind the acclaimed title Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, have incorporated a remarkable amount of pop culture references in their new map, which includes video games, movies, TV series, mangas, comics, books, and even memes. With the game in the launch phase, players have already begun to discover these hidden surprises, ranging from nods to titles like Elden Ring and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim to elements from Harry Potter and One Piece.
The references are designed to be found organically during explorations, adding a layer of immersion and fun to the gaming experience. The most notable examples include a tribute to the famous line from Skyrim about receiving an “arrow in the knee” and the iconic representation of Monkey D. Luffy’s hat, the famous protagonist of One Piece. Other nods include characters and elements from Dracula, the movie Midsommar, and the fantasy classic Excalibur.
There are not only references to works of fiction
Some players have found a crashed UFO on the map that, according to speculation, could be a reference to the reported extraterrestrial encounters in Mexico in mid-2023. This event quickly became a meme that circulated on social media, reflecting how contemporary culture intertwines with the world of video games.
Likewise, the tribute to Beetlejuice, the representation of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, and the iconic sword stuck in a bonfire from Dark Souls are just a few of the many references that are bringing life to the universe of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. This trend of including nods, or easter eggs, within games has become common, and Warhorse Studios seems to have taken this approach in an overflowing style.
