As WWDC 2025 approaches, expectations are rising for the unveiling of Apple’s next desktop operating system. While Apple has yet to officially confirm details, strong reports suggest that the successor to macOS Sequoia will be called macOS 26 Tahoe, following a new naming convention tied to release years.
Expected release and device compatibility
If tradition holds, Apple will introduce macOS 26 Tahoe at WWDC on June 9, with a developer beta launching shortly after and a public beta arriving in July. The full rollout is expected by September 2025, in line with previous macOS releases.
However, macOS 26 Tahoe may end support for Intel-based Macs, focusing solely on Apple Silicon models. Leaks indicate it will support iMac (2019+), MacBook Pro (2019+), Mac Studio (2022+), and all MacBook Air models with M-series chips.
New features and design changes
The most anticipated changes revolve around Apple Intelligence, the company’s suite of AI tools. macOS 26 Tahoe is rumored to bring deeper integration of AI features, improving app interactions and system-wide productivity tools. Furthermore, Apple may allow third-party developers to tap into its AI models, expanding innovation across the Mac ecosystem.
A new gaming app is also in development, acting as a hub for achievements, playtime stats, and friend tracking, likely integrating with both Apple Arcade and external platforms like Steam.
Visually, macOS 26 Tahoe could debut a significant design overhaul inspired by VisionOS, bringing a more immersive and modern user interface under the code name “Solarium.”
While we await confirmation at WWDC, the next macOS looks to be one of the most transformative updates in years, both in terms of aesthetics and functionality.
